The New Balance 1080 has been around in some form or another since the mid 90’s and is a shoe that is trusted by many runners, after my recent switch to the shoe, I can see why.
I have long been a fan of the Fresh Foam technology but found the 1080v8 a little heavy and rigid. The new 1080v9 is lighter, more responsive and the improvements in the upper are brilliant. It has lost nothing of the cushioning it is famed for and rides smoothly underfoot.
The big strides forward are the changes they have made to the upper, the previous version of the shoe was always very obviously on the foot but the new upper on the v9 feels like an extension of the foot. The biggest compliment I can pay the 1080v9 is that it doesn’t feel like a top end cushioned shoe, it feels lighter and much quicker than versions of old and on a purely superficial level, it has gone from one of the worst to best looking shoes on the market.
